When I was at Berkeley, I decided to recruit for banking during my senior year. Needless to say, I was way behind and felt that the odds were overwhelmingly against me.
Through a mix of hard work and fortune, I ended up at J.P. Morgan's top coverage group (Healthcare) in San Francisco. Looking back, I was extremely lucky to have older friends who guided me through the banking recruiting process, and I couldn't have done it without them.
Since college, I was always passionate about paying it forward and helping my younger classmates with recruiting. I carried this mentality to JPM, where I voluntarily contributed to recruiting (even while working 80-100 weeks) and was eventually selected as Recruiting Captain for 2 years. In this role, I reviewed hundreds of resumes, interviewed 50+ candidates, and selected the best ones for Superdays.
Throughout all these experiences, what I've learned is that banks don't always hire the most "qualified" candidates on paper - they hire those who understand exactly what banks are looking for.
From being on both sides of recruiting, I learned exactly what separates successful candidates from everyone else.
